“Having the Culture Sparks Audience Development Intern with us was invaluable. ”
Alison Martin, Citizens' Theatre

“Susie’s focus on family audiences pushed this area of our work up the agenda at the right time when we had new opportunities in our programming to exploit and made it an active part of our strategic and tactical planning for the year. It allowed us to achieve results in an important area of our development as a company and I firmly believe these would not have been achieved otherwise.”
Alison Martin, Citizens' Theatre

'The Greenhouse' Internships

An innovative training and professional development opportunity, The Greenhouse internship scheme has given six individuals the opportunity to break into arts marketing since it began in 2007. Find out about Susie - the first Glasgow intern - and what she got up to during her placements...

In Glasgow, Susie Ironside wowed the selection panel with a quirky personal essay as part of a grueling recruitment process. Mentored by Dianne Greig, Senior Partner at Culture Sparks, Susie was given the opportunity to work with marketing teams in selected member organisations on audience development collaborations. In addition, she assisted on numerous Culture Sparks ‘assignments’ as part of a planned schedule of work which gave her a chance to experience a wide-ranging itinerary of research, marketing and audience development projects.

The first part of the Internship took Susie across the River Clyde to the Citizens’ Theatre where she played a key role in the creation and implementation of a Family Audiences project. Her other main projects involved experiencing life at the RSNO where she gained practical marketing experience and much more. She also spent time at Scottish Ballet, WASPS Artists’ Studios, Platform, Glasgow’s Concert Halls and The National Piping Centre.

‘Graduating’ from the scheme in September 2008, Susie went on to join the marketing team at the new Riverside Museum run by Glasgow Life.
